2020 URBAN SURF 4 KIDS
Let's do it for the kids!
Established in 2009 Urban Surf 4 Kids (US4K) had one main goal, to allow foster children who have experienced various forms of abuse, neglect and abandonment to feel the healing power of the ocean. In California, by law, children in foster care were not legally allowed to enter the ocean. Urban Surf 4 Kids decided to assume the liability and create an opportunity through surf camps where these children could live in the moment and beach freely.
In 2016, we saw this and rallied our office to join in on a surf therapy day with US4K. The kids who range from ages 3-18, spent the day surfing and enjoying the beach with the Reef staff. In turn, our Reef volunteers were able to see the impact they could make by simply doing what they love - having fun at the beach. At the end of 2016, we surprised 30 kids from US4K with a holiday party on the beach. Complete with a decorated Christmas tree and gifts for the kids. The entire office came out to volunteer and presented US4K with a $10,000 becoming US4K’s first major corporate sponsor.
Fast forward to today and we've been lucky enough to contribute more than $75,000 since 2016! In 2019, another 1000 kids came through the US4K programs with the help of Reef and we only want to help more! Through donations and our staff volunteering at surf camps, the sky is the limit. This year US4K is looking to double the number of surf camp from 7-14, grow their mentor program, create an Alumni Leadership program and much more. Everyone deserves to experience the joy of swimming and splashing in the ocean waves and we're happy to say that we support and will continue to support US4K and their goals for 2020.
