We have partnered with the National Scholastic Surfing Association to provide a positive platform for rising stars of youth surfing. To keep it real, we asked World tour star, REEF ambassador and NSSA alumni, Griffin Colapinto, his opinion on who is worthy. We are a proud partner of the National Scholastic Surfing Association to support academic and competitive surfing excellence around the country. The future is bright!
Shoutout to Shion Crawford who won the Open Mens division at the 2021 National Championships with an absolutely electrifying performance and placed third in Open Juniors. Shion is an exceptional student at Waialua High School currently carrying a 3.8 GPA.
Q: So Griff picked you as a Rising Star of youth surfing. Is Griffin someone that inspires you?
A: Griffin is probably one of my favorite surfers. I’ve always liked his style and how he attacks the lip. Also on how he connects his turns with one section to another. It always looks soothing to watch and I always study him. He inspires me to surf just like him!
Q: Tell us what you are passionate about outside of a competition Jersey?
A:I really love to workout. It helps me prepare for contest and gives me confidence in my surfing abilities.
Q: What are your ultimate goals in surfing?
A: My ultimate goals for surfing are getting on the CT and winning a world title. I definitely want to win the Pipe Masters and the Haleiwa Challenger.
Q: What would you tell the generation under you if you had words of advice?
A: I would tell the next generation to do what you love and have a passion for what you’re doing!
