REEF ADVENTURE SEEKERS FEATURE // BROOKLYN HAWAII, BOTH SIDES OF THE LENS
Meet Reef Adventure Seeker Brooklyn Hawaii. Her photographs speak for themselves, and you'll see them throughout our website and Instagram feeds. Her work constantly shows up in social media and the fashion world, but this talented photographer is also a skilled surfer, she dives with sharks, and she's an all around rad human. We call her the “Hawaiian Princess.” We decided to showcase her beauty in front of the lens this time. Get behind the lens at brooklynhawaii.com @brooklynhawaii.
Favorite people to shoot:
I really love shooting anyone ... there's beauty to be seen in every single person, and I find it challenging to make people feel comfortable in front of my camera. Connecting with someone through photography is something that may not come naturally so I adore the moments of intimacy with each of my subjects and getting to know them a little each time.
Favorite place on the North shore to shoot:
The obvious answer would probably be "the beach" -- but it's true. Our sand is grainier, ocean so blue, beads of salt water on skin, hair dripping wet ... you can't really go wrong!
What inspired you to start taking photos?
I've always played with cameras ever since I was in elementary school. I was fascinated with documenting life, freezing moments, taking candid photos of my friends, then developing my own film in college, and eventually starting a freelance business eight years ago.
How has surfing, your lifestyle and love for the ocean played a role in your photography?
It's really everything. It's what drives me to create something beautiful, what gets me up in the morning, where my friends are at, a critical part of my every day life.
How does traveling tie in with your career?
I've been blessed to be able to travel by means of photography. Of course, when I'm on a personal trip photography will always play a major part of my time spent in other places. I've also been lucky enough to shoot for resorts and companies in different parts of the world but considering many of my clients love to travel to Hawaii to work, that's awesome too.
Where in the world you’ve traveled so far?
Mostly tropical places like Maldives, French Polynesia, Indonesia, but also fun trips like cross-country America.
Favorite adventure so far:
Driving from LA to NY with 3 of my best friends was definitely one for the books, but French Polynesia will always have my heart!
Accomplishments you are most proud of:
Risking a life of comfort and security to recklessly pursue a passion :)
Favorite Reef sandal:
I love the Reef Rovers for traveling, adventures, and every day use!
