It’s been said that the effect of a minute localized change in a complex system can have large effects elsewhere. Some call a butterfly effect, we call it the Earth..effect of the Surfrider x Reef Better Beach Alliance continuing its efforts from state, national and international beach clean-up rallies resulting in an increase in data reporting and action that has lead to an increase in concservation and preventative impact and victories of our beaches and oceans.
Definition of a Campaign Victory: Surfrider defines a victory as a decision made in favor of the coastal environment that results in a positive conservation outcome, improves coastal access, or does both. Every day, government bodies make decisions that impact the coastal resources we use and cherish. Surfrider’s vision is to influence these decisions to achieve 100% protection of the coasts. Of our 15 Coastal Victories so far this year, 9 have been victories for Surfrider’s Plastic Pollution Initiative:
Active Plastic Pollution Campaigns: 52
Victories so far this year: 15
Year to date Surfrider Victories Achieved and counting: 500
