Rob Machado

Known in the international surf community as the most stylish surfer in the world, Rob Machado has dazzled us for years with his grace, power, and poise. Now off the WCT tour, his energy is being focused in different directions. He still will compete in selected events around the world as well as his own projects at home will keep him in the limelight. Rob's high lights and achievements include eight ASP tour victories, an ASP ranking of second in the world in 1995, and eight consecutive seasons in the WCT's Top 16. The year 2000 was one of Rob's best on tour. He won three events and finished third in the world. Even better, he fulfilled a lifelong dream in the tour's last event of the millennium - Rob took first place in the prestigious Mountain Dew Gerry Lopez Pipe Masters. Rob's accomplishments were recognized in 2001 in a special exhibit of the San Diego Hall of Champions featuring local world-class athletes in sports with special ties to the area. The City of Encinitas also honored him by proclaiming February 28, 2001 as Rob Machado Day. He has finished as runner-up three times in Surfer Magazine's annual readers' poll and has been in the top ten for 10 years. The Surfer Poll is the measure of the world's most beloved surfers. Widely recognized as a role model for young surfers, he generously gives his time to his hometown and fans through active participation in his annual surf classics. Whether from a gift of one of his boards, the opportunity to surf alongside him or have a picture taken with him, or seeing him in action in a surfing exhibition with his friends from the tour, Rob creates memories every year.
