SWELL/WEATHER SUMMARY AND LONG RANGE OUTLOOK

NOTE – This forecast is focused on Haleiwa. Other spots of the North Shore that focus these swells best will produce larger waves (up to 30-50% bigger).

Just minor NW swell is on track for the next few days. The small NW sets we were seeing this Monday afternoon will continue Tuesday morning, before easing over theafternoon. Smaller leftovers prevail Wednesday morning and the surf is basically flat.

Our next NW swell now looks to be roughly similar in size, as the storm was just never aimed very well at Hawaii. We’ll start to see minor forerunners build Wednesday afternoon, a peak in swell Thursday and then easing surf by Friday. For Thur/Fri we’ll see mainly waist high waves at Haleiwa and a little better on occasion. That minor swell fades by the weekend and Sat/Sun will be flat.

The last three days of the waiting period do look a little better and will see at least contestable surf, if a storm near Japan behaves as forecast in the next fewdays. New WNW/NW swell from this storm will fill in Monday the 21st, continue Tuesday the 22nd and then fade by Wednesday the 23rd. For Mon/Tue shoulder-head high waves will show at Haleiwa if the storm behaves as forecast, before fading Wednesday. Stay tuned, we’ll have more details on this swell once the storm actually pulls together.

WEATHER/WIND – Easterly trades will be fairly light through mid week (9-12kts+) as high pressure north of the islands weakens and slowly drifts to the east. Easterly trades rebuild for the end of the week, and especially the weekend, and will be moderate to strong around 15 knots+.
