JD WEBB JUMPS LAKE EOLA FOUNTAIN FOR DISCOVERY CHANNEL
06
OCT
2006
September 30th is officially JD Webb day in Orlando, FL. On Saturday September 30, 2006 JD launched 30 feet in the air over a 65 foot wide fountain in Lake Eola which is located in downtown Orlando. JD had been preparing for a couple of weeks for the jump, but had never actually jumped on that particular lake over the fountain until Saturday. The TV show Stunt Junkies approached JD’s wakeboard sponsor about a month ago about doing a stunt involving a wakeboarder. Hyperlite Wakeboards, Step Up Productions and the city of Orlando put the stunt together.

The morning started out with JD hitting the ramp and totally missing the down ramp. After that JD did a couple of practice hits with the ramp close together and the fountain off. He made a couple and missed the last practice attempt when he went for a gap to backlip. It was definitely nerve racking when the boys from Step Up Productions widen the ramps and then turned on the fountain for the finale. JD took one shot at the 65 foot gap and nailed it perfect. This was by far the biggest gap ever done on a wakeboard with the biggest consequences for disaster if the jump went bad. JD is an unbelievably talented wakeboarder and was a true professional on the day of the jump.

After the stunt, the Mayor of Orlando, Buddy Dyar, proclaimed September 30th JD Webb day and gave JD a key to the city. This should be an awesome promotional event for the city and JD.

This episode of Stunt Junkies will be aired later this year on the Discover Channel. Check back to reef.com for air dates.
