Reef Ugandal Sandal
Reef Ugandal Sandal

WEAR THEIR SANDAL, SHARE THEIR STORY
Uganda has been plagued by an internal war between the government and the Lord’s Resistance Army for over twenty years. The war has inflicted immense tragedy and brutality against the Acholi people, with nearly 1 million of them displaced into refugee camps. Despite the fear of ongoing war and the struggle to provide basic necessities, there is immense hope for change.
Reef has partnered with 31bits, an organization that aids displaced women in Uganda refugee camps, through the practice of fair trade. Reef has pre-purchased the women’s beautiful handcrafted beads made of recycled magazine paper to adorn the t-strap sandal which is made of chrome free leather. On top of providing a for profit opportunity for the women of Uganda, 1% of the proceeds from this leather sandal will benefit the Reef Redemption fund – Reef’s own humanitarian and environmental organization.
About 31 Bits

31 bits is centered on using the creative art and entrepreneurship already present in the women. Their goal is to help get them out of poverty, provide consistent schooling for their children, and proper nutrition and health care for the entire family. 31 bits does this by creating an international market and voice for the beautiful jewelry the women are already making. All of our products are brought directly from the women, are fair trade, are made of recycled paper, and are sold in boutiques across the United States. They envision that in two years they will expand 31 Bits to partner with local Non Government Organizations to initiate and fund community based projects directed by the needs and desires of the community.
