All year we wait for this moment. The North Shore is our paradise found.
Every November the Seven-Mile Miracle is the gathering ground for the world’s greatest surf prodigies. We flock to this surf haven not just to find that perfect wave, but to be surrounded by the Hawaiian Spirit. We congregate to talk stories, laugh and smile with friends that we haven’t seen since last year. On the North Shore it’s easy to become accustomed to the mana, the energy that’s recognized by Hawaiians as the universal power that bonds us together. Although we are competitors in the water, on land everyone is a brother, a sister, or cousin. It’s here that we’re all part of the same ohana, one that’s bonded by essence of aloha.
Sitting isolated in the Pacific Ocean, some 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador, are the mysterious Galapagos. We chose these “Enchanted Islands” to host the 2013 Miss Reef Calendar shoot. For generations, this rich archipelago has been celebrated for what it has to teach us about the natural world – countless species in the wild, from the woodlands to sky and sea.
