Michael Powell

Michael Powell is not only a serious East Coast shredder, but he’s also quite possibly one of the most educated pros in surfing. Coming up in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, surfing was everything to he and his brother Ben.  But even as a top competitor on the Right Side, Powell chose to pursue an education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
2010 was a huge year for Powell as he finished first in the college division of the NSSA National Championships and graduated with a business degree. He also won the Reef/Sweetwater Pro-Am event in Wrightsville Beach, which started his relationship with Reef.
Last year, he won the Ron Jon Easter Surf Fest in Florida and took third at the Quiksilver Acapulco Open 4-star.
Powell’s got a nice little competitive record under his belt, but these days, he and his brother run the Carolina School of Surf, and thanks to becoming part of the Reef family, continues to travel and pursue his goal of breaking into the ASP’s One World ranking Top 100.
