A Hawaiian in every sense of the word, Stephen Koehne is a double threat, slaying huge barrels or huge pelagic fish. A Kauai boy, Koehne came up under Andy and Bruce Irons. He’s a straightforward kind of character who’s especially good at backside barrels – Teahupoo, Pipe, or back home in Kauai. Competing isn’t Koehne’s main focus. Every since he landed a 170-lb yellowfin tuna from his jet ski, he’s been focused on big fish, especially those that put up the most fight. Koehne bought himself a single hull boat and whenever the surf drops, he’s out chasing big game fish. Life simply revolves around the ocean.
