Sometimes it’s not easy to rise when you’re from the breadbasket. Born in iconic Laguna Beach, Mike Losness now lives right next door in San Clemente, as impressive a ripper at Lower Trestles as anyone.
Losness had an exciting career as a pro, taking second place at the Sebastian Inlet Pro, making the semis of the Sooruz Lacanau Pro in 2008, and finishing the WQS season at No. 48.
But even more than the guy who could get to the next round, Losness was the guy who could get the shot. A tireless journeyman freesurfer, he was able to get himself around the world and pull the next level move in the most dramatic of settings. He became a Reef Ambassador in 2008, traveling to Indonesia, Australia, Barbados, Russia, and Japan in search of idyllic wavescapes.
And surfing isn’t his only medium of expression. Losness has incredible talent as a artist as well, expressing his experiences in the oceans around the world on canvas.
In 2001, Reef approached him about becoming the Orange County sales rep, a position he gratefully accepted. “Reef makes innovative products with premium and redemptive materials. The fit, quality and comfort of a reef product is best in class. I made one of the best decisions of my life when I decided to take on the challenge of becoming a Reef Sales Rep,” Losness explains, “It was tough transitioning from surf reports to sales forecasts, but I have found my groove and still make time to be in the ocean. The team of Sales Reps at Reef is one of the best in the industry and I have been honored to become a part of that group. The support I have been given from everyone at Reef has been amazing. I appreciate the time and effort that has been put into my transition from surfer to Sales Rep. I continue to learn and be inspired."
