There are 65,000 people who live on the island of Kauai, Alana Blachard’s native island in Hawaii. That’s a funny number when you consider Blanchard has almost double that number of followers on Twitter.
Her journey to stardom began around the Hanalei Pier at the age of 4. Growing up under the influence of so many great surfers on Kauai, Blanchard had style from a young age. In 2005, she was the Womens Triple Crown rookie of the year and won the T&C Womens Pipeline Championships. In 2007, she repeated her title at Pipe. With her looks and style, she quickly transcended surfing to become one of the most popular women’s athletes in the world
Thanks to a third place finish at the 2010 Cholo's Hawaiian Pro, the first stop of the prestigious Van's Triple Crown of Surfing, Alana officially qualified for the 2011 ASP Women's World Tour.
"I honestly didn't even know I could qualify. I'm actually glad I didn't know, so I could just focus on surfing well in the finals,” she said at the time.
Today’ Alana's name is rising just as quickly as her social network followers. She is committed to her healthy diet and varied exercise schedule. Alana turns just as many heads for her effortless bottom turns as her fearless approach to surfing.
